THRILLS ON THE WATER AS “DE WIZARD” WINS FESTIVAL DEL MAR CLASS A BOAT RACE

  What was meant to be one of the premier attractions of this year’s Festival Del Mar finally happened on Sunday, 19th April 2026, as the postponed Class A Series boat race finally sailed into action. Delayed due to unfavourable weather conditions during the Easter weekend, spectators lined the Sandy Ground shoreline, their eyes fixed on the vessels as crews made final preparations. The atmosphere was fuelled not only by competition but by a deep-rooted cultural pride that continues to define Anguilla’s boat racing tradition. As the race commenced, cheers erupted across the bay, sending the boats slicing through the water on their journey towards Island Harbour. Onlookers followed the action — some by road, others by sea — making their way to Island Harbour to witness the dramatic conclusion. The movement of spectators mirrored the race itself: fast-paced, spirited, and impossible to ignore. With the 2026 season still in its early stages, all eyes were on whether De Wizard would display its winning form of the 2025 season. The race formed part of the broader 2026 A Class Series, where consistency across events is key. Following this second race of the season, De Wizard took an early lead on the leaderboard with 10 points. Sonic Three trails with 7 points, while Satellite Racing and Light and Peace hold 5 and 4 points respectively. Yet, seasoned followers of the sport know better than to read too much into early standings. Boat racing in Anguilla is as unpredictable as the sea itself. Early leads have been overturned before, and with several races still ahead, the pressure is already mounting. Each team understands that momentum can shift in an instant, and that every race carries the potential to reshape the season. Sunday’s event, proudly presented by the Festival Del Mar Committee in collaboration with the Anguilla Boat Racing Association, was more than just a competition.
