UK PM Keir Starmer to visit Egypt in July: Ambassador

The British Ambassador to Egypt, Mark Bryson-Richardson, praised Egypt’s ongoing efforts to advance its economic reform program, emphasizing that relations between the UK and Egypt are moving towards a more strategic and integrated phase, ahead of British Prime Minister Keir Starmer’s anticipated visit to Cairo in July. This came during a speech delivered by the British Ambassador at the “Egypt’s Future: Investment Opportunities and Sustainable Economic Reform” conference, organized by the Egyptian British Business Association (BEBA) in London from June 3-5, 2026. The ambassador explained that Egypt and Britain have a solid and deep-rooted foundation of economic relations, with a clear desire to boost cooperation in trade and investment. Egypt continues to implement ambitious economic reform measures aimed at modernizing tax administration, enhancing transparency, and aligning regulatory frameworks with best international practices, he noted. The anticipated visit of British Prime Minister will mark a turning point in bilateral relations, as it will directly contribute to launching a broader and more comprehensive framework for cooperation between the two countries, encompassing various political, economic, and developmental fields, the ambassador added.   Booming trade Bryson-Richardson also revealed that the volume of trade between Egypt and the UK already exceeds £5 billion annually, with significant and promising opportunities to increase boost investment flows between the two countries. He added that the UK remains one of the largest foreign investors in Egypt, while both countries continue to explore opportunities to expand cooperation in promising regional markets across Africa and the Middle East. The ambassador stressed that the infrastructure, innovation and sustainable development sectors represent promising future areas for joint cooperation, expressing his confidence that the current business and investment mission will contribute to creating new investment opportunities and strengthening trade partnerships between the business communities of both countries.
