Palestinian Journalists Hold Symbolic March in Ramallah Marking Two Years of War on Gaza

RAMALLAH, West Bank / PNN /Palestinian journalists held a symbolic march in Ramallah on Wednesday to mark two years since the start of what they described as an ongoing war of extermination against the Palestinian people and to denounce Israeli attacks targeting journalists and media institutions. The demonstration, organised by the Palestinian Journalists’ Syndicate, began outside the Ramallah Cultural Palace and proceeded toward the United Nations offices in the city. Participants, including dozens of journalists and activists, carried symbolic coffins bearing the names and photographs of journalists killed during the conflict to highlight the heavy toll on the Palestinian media sector.Nasser Abu Bakr, head of the Palestinian Journalists’ Syndicate, said that more than 252 journalists have been killed, over 400 injured, and about 200 arrested, while 650 family members of journalists have also lost their lives. He added that more than 200 media institutions have been destroyed since the beginning of the war.In an interview with PNN, Abu Bakr said the ongoing conflict “is not only a war on Gaza but a war on human conscience, on the profession of journalism, and on the world’s right to see, hear, and know.” He added: “The occupation is not only killing journalists; it is killing the narrative it does not want the world to know.”Abu Bakr described the targeting of journalists as “an unprecedented media genocide,” calling on the international community to fulfil its responsibilities and hold those responsible accountable through the International Criminal Court and other legal mechanisms. He urged governments and parliaments to impose measures and sanctions on Israel in line with UN Security Council Resolution 2222 (2015), which calls for ensuring accountability for crimes committed against journalists.Abu Bakr also stressed the need for international protection for Palestinian journalists and greater exposure of war crimes committed against them, saying the attacks represent “a grave assault on media freedom and human rights” and demand strong international action. The march was attended by members of the Palestine Liberation Organization’s Executive Committee, leaders of various political factions, and representatives of civil society, who condemned Israel’s crimes against journalists and the Palestinian people at large.
