Ship delivery helps Finland to post €1.3b trade surplus in July
The trade balance was in surplus of EUR 1.3 billion in July, according to the preliminary statistics of international trade in goods released by Finnish Customs on Friday.
A cruise ship delivery of 1.8 billion euros had a significant impact on the increase of exports in July.
In January-July, the aggregated surplus amounted to EUR 1.2 billion.
In July 2024, the trade balance was EUR 128 million in deficit and in January-July of the same year, the aggregated deficit was EUR 1.7 billion.
According to the statistics, the value of Finnish exports increased by 19.5 per cent in July year-on-year. The value of Finnish exports in July was EUR 7.5 billion. Export volume increased by 26.8 per cent and export prices declined by 5.6 per cent year-on-year.
The value of imports decreased by 3.4 per cent in July and was EUR 6.2 billion. Import prices declined by 3.2 per cent, but import volume increased by 2.4 per cent compared to July 2024.
In January-July 2025, the aggregated value of exports increased by 5.8 per cent, but the value of imports decreased by 1.2 per cent year-on-year.
Change of export volume during the latest 12 months was +1.0 per cent (12 month moving average August 2024 – July 2025). The corresponding figure for import volume was +0.9 per cent.
Value of exports to EU member states decreased by 7.3 per cent, but increased to non-EU countries by 51.5 per cent in July compared to the same month the previous year. The volume of exports to EU countries decreased by 5.7 per cent, but increased to non-EU countries by 62.3 per cent during the same time.
Calculated from the beginning of the year, the value of exports to EU countries increased by 0.6 per cent and to non-EU countries by 12.9 per cent. The volume of exports to EU member states increased by 2.4 per cent, but the volume of exports to non-EU countries decreased by 2.6 per cent calculated according to a 12-month moving average.
Value of imports from EU countries decreased by 5.2 per cent and from non-EU countries by 0.9 per cent in July. The volume of imports from EU member states decreased by 4.0 per cent, but increased from non-EU countries by 12.5 per cent.
Calculated from the beginning of the year, value of imports from EU member states decreased by 0.6 per cent, and from other countries by 2.0 per cent. The volume of imports from EU member states increased by 0.1 per cent and from non-EU countries by 2.2 per cent calculated according to a 12-month moving average.
